Criminal Law

The Law Office of Frank C Ehman provides criminal defense counsel for misdemeanors and felonies.  If you are under investigation, have been arrested, or have been charged with a crime, please speak with a criminal attorney before answering any questions for authorities.  Mistakes made early in the criminal justice process often damage defense possibilities.

Mr. Ehman represents his clients to the best of his ability, including negotiating with prosecutors which may result in reduced charges or lesser sentencing.

Types of Crimes

Crimes that are regarded as less serious are referred to as misdemeanors. A misdemeanor usually is punishable by a fine or by incarceration in a local jail for a period of less than one year.

The most serious types of crimes are referred to as felonies. The usual definition is that a felony is any crime that may be punished by more than a year's imprisonment or death.

DWI and DUI

A drunk-driving conviction carries with it serious and long-lasting consequences which can include jail time, heavy fines, and suspension or revocation of a driver's license. A person who is facing a drunk-driving charge should not hesitate to seek immediate legal counsel from an experienced drunk driving defense attorney.

In Texas, the first offense of DWI & DUI is a Class B misdemeanor that carries a range of punishment of up to 180 days in the county jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000.00.  In addition, a refusal to submit to a “breath-test” will result in a driver’s license suspension for 90-days if the person's driving record shows no alcohol or drug related enforcement contact in the previous 10 years.

However, with the right representation the consequences do not have to be as severe.  If you have no prior alcohol-related license suspensions, you are eligible for an occupational driver's license.  In addition, the jail sentence, driver’s license suspension, and a significant portion of the fine may be probated for one year.

Personal Injury

The Law Office of Frank C. Ehman assists clients with personal injury issues.  Mr. Ehman aims to obtain justice for his clients, whether that be through a settlement or court decision.

Personal injury law is based in “tort”. Broadly defined, a tort is a harmful act or failure to act for which the law provides a remedy.  The basic principle is that injured persons should be compensated by those responsible for their injuries.

The law generally recognizes three types of torts: intentional torts, negligent torts, and torts based on strict liability. Each of these is unique and has its own requirements for recovery. Generally, this means that an injured person should be compensated once it is proven that someone else was careless, reckless or intentionally engaged in some type of misconduct.
